In the U.S., the Ragtime craze gave way to jazz, which merged with classical music in the works of Ellington or Gershwin. Jazz orchestras led by Benny Goodman, Paul Whiteman (who commissioned Rhapsody in Blue), Ellington, Cab Calloway, or Al Turk (Shanghai Honeymoon) had their performances broadcast from the Cotton Club or the Savoy in Harlem.

Terrence Wilson and a Summermusik string quartet perform works by or influential to a new generation of composers that emerged in post-war France, including Francis Poulenc and Germaine Tailleferre, among many.
